BEST SKIING HOLIDAYS IN AUSTRIA
It’s probably one of the most frequent asked questions I get from people around the world: where to ski in Austria? Basically you can ski almost everywhere in the Austrian Alps. It’s usually a question of your expectations but I can tell you what my best skiing holidays in Austria were so far in this blogpost.
If you are not a fan of reading go ahead and watch our Alpine Youtube Vlogs on “Making It Happen” (just click on it or scroll all the way down). But trust me, you want to see these breathtaking pictures as well 😉
FIRST OF ALL: HOW TO GET THE FULL AUSTRIAN EXPERIENCE
Growing up in Austria means growing up with traditions, lots of culture and history.
There are 3 things that make an Austrian an Austrian 😀
- Austrians love being in the nature and enjoying the perks of the beautiful Austrian landscape
- therefore Austrians have two main favorite things to do in their leisure time: hiking (in summer) and skiing (in winter)
- if you take 1+2 and combine it with traditional Austrian food like “Käsespätzle” and sweet dishes like “Kaiserschmarrn”, “Apfelstrudel” or “Germknödel” and drink beer with it, you will probably get the full experience of what it means being an Austrian.
I should probably dedicate a whole blogpost to this 😀 (let me know in the comments if you would be interested). But for now, lets continue with our latest short getaway and probably the best skiing holidays in Austria.
WELCOME TO WINTER WONDERLAND ZÜRS
We took a train ride of around 4 hours from “Linz” to “Langen am Arlberg” and while we got some work done during our ride, we realized we were approaching winter wonderland and we got really excited! Our hotel arranged a pick-up from the train station to Zürs and as I thought it could not get better, the drive to the hotel was breathtaking. Everything was covered in snow, untouched powder slopes and a panorama to die for – it seemed too perfect to be true 😀 Well, the only “bad” thing was the temperature: we had minus 16 degrees Celsius but as long as you are prepared, it’s something that doesn’t bother you.
THE PERFECT PLACE TO STAY IN ZÜRS
In the middle of probably one of the best skiing regions in the world, there is this beautiful, traditional and family owned Hotel: The Zürserhof*. As we enter the hotel, we got greeted with a welcoming smile and it feels like coming home.
Well, besides the fact that I don’t have a stunning view like this 😀
BREATHTAKING PANORAMIC VIEWS & SKIING HEAVEN
The first thing you want to do when you arrive: “aufi auf’n Berg!” which means going up the mountain and hitting the slopes. The Zürserhof has its own Ski storage area which is just a few steps away from the ski lift.
We arrived on the top of the mountain. Look at this place! This is incredible and I can’t believe how blessed we are with this fantastic view – I just kept saying “This seems unreal! Oh my god, this is so beautiful!”. As you see in the pictures and in our VLOGS, our happiness factor is pretty high!
FOOD FOR FOODIES
Usually we would take a break at one of the traditional “Skihütten” to refuel, but we heard the food at Hotel Zürserhof* meets our expectations as foodies and its covered with our stay, so we gave it a try.
Have I mentioned the beautiful Interior at the Zürserhof? I love the details and unique pieces.
We were traveling the past few weeks. We were back home in Miami for almost 3 months, after that we travelled to Bali. And no matter where we are: we love to eat the traditional dishes of each country or area. But nothing beats traditional Austrian dishes you grew up with. The chef and the culinary team of the Zürserhof like to mix it up and we had fantastic meals. But still, the traditional ones were my favorites:
Variety and the love for the best quality food is, what makes the whole dining experience extraordinary at the Zürserhof. My mouth watered when I saw the assortment of over 100 different cheese variations. I was told they offer almost over 200 cheese sorts at peak times. My boyfriend Mike went all in and had his best cheese indulgement of his life 😀 Don’t forget the “Schnaps” after the cheese for the digestion 😉
TIME TO RELAX AND UNWIND
We had lots of action in the last few weeks. A bubble bath or a romantic evening in front of the warm fire place seemed to be one of these perfectly relaxing things we needed urgently. We were even able to set up an “Alpine Hamam Bath” treatment and a massage in the marvelous and huge SPA area.
Last one: sauna with a view. No worries, this window has a mirror effect so people from outside can’t see you. If you can’t manage to try all the other SPA offers, go at least to the Sauna to reheat and cleanse your body. It’s probably the best thing to do after skiing with -16 degree Celsius.
Honestly, this was one of the best Skiing Holidays in Austria I ever had and it reminds me how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful country.
QUESTION FOR TO MY READERS:
